NHTSA 10059002: Battery cracking

Battery cracking on BMW F10 models (2013); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10059002 · Jun 2015

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

The electric machine electronics connection for the b+ that leads to the 12V battery that moves energy from the dc/dc converter may corrode over time, which could break in some cases. This would interrupt the output from the dc/dc and would discharge the 12V battery.
