When BMW finds a recurring problem, it sends its dealers a service information bulletin (SIB) explaining the symptoms and the approved fix. Federal law requires carmakers to file these communications with NHTSA, which publishes them. A bulletin is not a recall: unless the car is under warranty or a warranty extension applies, the owner usually pays for the repair. Warranty extensions and service campaigns are different: eligible cars get the fix at no cost.
Want to know if a bulletin applies to your car? Mention the bulletin number to your shop, and run your VIN through our recall check to see recalls and bulletins for your model and year.
