Buying a used BMW? Check the VIN first

One page for a pre-purchase look: what the car is, the recalls and BMW service bulletins for that model and year, and the common repairs to budget for, priced for your ZIP.

We don't store or log the VIN. It's sent once to NHTSA's public decoder. The share link keeps the VIN after the # in the address, which browsers don't send to our server.

What this check covers, and what it doesn't

Recalls and bulletins are listed by model and model year, not by the exact car. A recall may already be done on this car, and a bulletin doesn't mean the car has the problem. The repair list shows jobs that commonly come up on this chassis and engine, with typical prices, so you can budget and know what to ask about. It is not a substitute for a pre-purchase inspection by a BMW specialist, a vehicle history report and the car's service records.

To confirm open recalls on this specific VIN, use NHTSA's VIN lookup or BMW USA's recall lookup.
