SIB 72 01 09: Seat belt service information

Seat belt service information on BMW E65/E66 models (2006–2008); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10029964 · Mar 2009 · also written SI B72 01 09, B720109

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

The safety belts for the front seats have an electric motor-driven reel (ema) which will retract/pretension the seat belt a specified amount when certain hazardous driving situations are present.

Model, year and engine coverage comes from NHTSA's records. Not every car in this range is affected; the official document lists the exact production dates and conditions.

Before you pay, check the VIN for recalls. Some failures are covered by a safety recall or a BMW warranty extension.
