SIB 33 01 22: Steering squeak

Steering squeak on BMW F39/F48 models (2016–2022); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10215752 · May 2022 · also written SI B33 01 22, B330122

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

The following complaints may be noticed while slow maneuvering with a steering input of 80-100% (at or near full lock, e.g., parking lot maneuvers) or accelerating with a medium to large steering angle: Humming or creaking noises from the rear area, slight vibrations also noticeable from the driver's seat.
