SIB 51 02 22: Tailgate fault codes

Tailgate fault codes on BMW G05/G07/G11/G12 models (2019–2023); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10238075 · May 2023 · also written SI B51 02 22, B510222

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

In the affected vehicles, faulty spindle drives for the tailgate (lower section) may have been installed, which can fail over time.
