SIB 11 08 03: Valve cover cracking

Valve cover cracking on BMW E53/E60/E61/E70 and other models (2006–2011); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10037010 · Jul 2010 · also written SI B11 08 03, B110803

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

Six different models equipped with the M54 engine could have valve covers break in cold weather and ruin the engine. This is due to moisture accumulation.
