Red or yellow
- Red: stop as soon as it is safe and switch off, or don't continue. Examples are overheating, oil pressure and brake fluid.
- Yellow: a fault or a reminder. Drive carefully and have it checked soon; some yellow messages tell you to drive moderately.
- BMW shows a symbol in the instrument cluster and, on most cars, a text message (Check Control) in the cluster or the central screen. Stored messages can be reread in the vehicle status or Check Control menu.
