SIB 11 12 16: Crankcase ventilation no-start

Crankcase ventilation no-start on BMW E60/F01/F02/F06 and other models (2009–2017); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10163994 · Jul 2019 · also written SI B11 12 16, B111216

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

The crankcase ventilation hoses may become brittle and break when they come in contact with hot engine components. One or more of the crankcase ventilation hoses are not FPM (fluoroelastomer) rubber material. The FPM rubber material is engine heat resistant.
