SIB 12 02 11: Engine no-start

Engine no-start on BMW E60/E61/E70/E71 and other models (2008–2011); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10037704 · Jan 2011 · also written SI B12 02 11, B120211

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

On low mileage vehicles the engine runs rough, mifires, or fails to crank. This is caused by multiple short start-ups without the engine properly going through a warm-up phase.
