SIB 51 09 25: Tailgate corrosion
Tailgate corrosion on BMW G01/F97 models (2022–2024); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.
BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 11024711 · Oct 2025 · also written SI B51 09 25, B510925
What it covers
A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.
Oxidation/corrosion on the tailgate latch electrical connector and/or mechanical cable. This is caused by pressure washing the tailgate for a long period of time at close distance, resulting in water entering the vehicle through the gaps of the tailgate.
