SIB 51 18 19: Rear glass window does not fully open

Rear glass window does not fully open on BMW I12/I15 models (2014–2019); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10165283 · Aug 2019 · also written SI B51 18 19, B511819

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

REAR GLASS WINDOW DOES NOT FULLY OPEN. When opening the rear glass window to access the luggage compartment the lid will release but will not open high enough to grasp the window completely by hand. The lock pin is contaminated.

Before you pay, check the VIN for recalls. Some failures are covered by a safety recall or a BMW warranty extension.
