BMW 2AA9: variable intake system servo motor 2 (DISA)
A fault with the smaller of the two intake-manifold flaps (DISA valves) on N52 sixes. Not a VANOS fault, despite what some forums say.

P-codes are the generic OBD-II codes any reader shows. Six-character and four-character hex codes are BMW's own, read with a BMW-capable scanner; the wording is BMW's, from the source shown.
What it means
Many N52 engines have a three-stage intake manifold with two DISA valves that change the intake path. 2AA9 points to servo motor 2, the smaller valve under the intake manifold. This page is based on owner forum reports; we haven't found a BMW bulletin for it.
Can I keep driving?
Yes. Expect a small loss of power in some rev ranges or a rough idle. The bigger risk is a broken DISA flap falling into the engine, so don't leave a rattling DISA for long.
Usual causes on BMWs
| Cause | Cars most affected | What you notice | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small DISA valve stuck, worn or failed | N52, N52K (E83, E90 and others) | Owners report reaching it requires removing the intake manifold. | Owner report |
A bulletin isn't a recall and doesn't mean your car has the problem; open it for the exact models and build dates.
What to do
- Check for other DME codes first.
- Ask whether the shop will inspect the valve for broken parts when the manifold is off.
