SIB 09 01 21: Software failure

Software failure on BMW G01/G02/G05/G06 and other models (2016–2022); BMW released a software update.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10215750 · May 2022 · also written SI B09 01 21, B090121

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

In case of a Remote Software Upgrade failure, the engine start is prevented for safety reasons until the vehicle is programmed correctly. Most of the errors occur when only one control unit fails to program correctly.
