SIB 12 04 15: Check engine light

Check engine light on BMW E46/E60/E70/E71 and other models (2006–2016); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10147595 · Jan 2015 · also written SI B12 04 15, B120415

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

SUBJECT DME Internal and Valvetronic Faults Set at Cold Ambient Temperatures. The Service Engine Soon light (MIL) can be illuminated with the erroneous internal and Valvetronic faults stored in the DME. The MIL will only come on if the fault has been detected on two (or more) consecutive drive cycles.
