Axle noise on BMW G11/G12/G32/E60 and other models (2006–2020); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10179812 · Aug 2020 · also written SI B31 01 12, B310112

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

CRACKING NOISES FROM THE FRONTAXLE AREA WHILE TURNING THE WHEELS, WHEN STATION: Cracking noises are heard from the front axle area while maneuvering at low speeds (e.g., parking lot maneuvers) or when turning the steering wheel while stationary.
