SIB 61 06 11: Software failure

Software failure on BMW E53/E70/E71/E82 and other models (2006–2012); BMW released a software update.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10042686 · Sep 2011 · also written SI B61 06 11, B610611

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

On certain vehicles, the jbe (junction box electronics) module fails programming during a software update of the vehicle.
