IMPORTANT: BMW of North America has extended the warranty on this valve to 15 years / 150,000 miles on many B46/B48/B58 cars (SIB 01 02 24, 01 03 24, 01 04 24, 01 13 25, 01 14 25, 01 01 26; it applies to the car and transfers to later owners, and BMW reimburses qualifying earlier repairs). Ask a BMW dealer to check your VIN before paying. The dealer may still charge for diagnosis. The valve (BMW calls it the fuel tank breather valve) sits on top of the engine and is quick to swap. If the fault comes back, the vent hoses, the differential pressure sensor line or the charcoal canister can be the cause.
