NHTSA 10149613: Radio noise

Radio noise on BMW E46/E82/E88/E89 and other models (2006–2014); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.

BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10149613 · May 2013

What it covers

A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.

In all audio modes (radio, CD, AUX-In, etc.), the audio output is distorted. It is more noticeable with high bass and high audio volume settings. There may also be an intermittent interference noise coming from the loudspeakers at low audio volume or when the radio is turned off.
