Brakes failure on BMW E53/E70/E71 models (2006–2011); BMW explains the cause and the approved repair.
BMW service bulletin · NHTSA ID 10040177 · Mar 2013 · also written SI B63 10 09, B631009
What it covers
A service bulletin tells BMW technicians how to diagnose or fix a known issue. It is not a recall: a repair under a bulletin is normally paid by the owner unless the car is still under warranty or a warranty extension applies.
The brake light fails and the bulb holder is deformed due to high temperatures and the composition of the holder.
