BMW 2AAF: fuel pump plausibility (N54)
On its own, BMW says 2AAF on the N54 is a sensitive diagnosis, not a failed fuel pump. Only investigate if it comes with other low-pressure faults.

| 2AAF | Fuel pump plausibility: integral component outside valid range | BMW SI B13 05 09 |
P-codes are the generic OBD-II codes any reader shows. Six-character and four-character hex codes are BMW's own, read with a BMW-capable scanner; the wording is BMW's, from the source shown.
What it means
BMW SI B13 05 09 covers 2AAF on N54 cars (E60, E61, E71, E82, E88, E90, E92, E93). It may be stored alone with no drivability complaint and without turning on the check engine light, or alongside misfire or high-pressure pump faults. BMW states that 2AAF stored alone is caused by DME diagnostic sensitivity.
Can I keep driving?
Yes, if it's the only code. Alone, it has no effect on driving. With misfires or fuel-pressure codes, treat it as a fuel-pressure problem and get it checked.
Usual causes on BMWs
| Cause | Cars most affected | What you notice | Evidence | Repair prices (national average) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DME diagnostic sensitivity (2AAF alone) | N54 | BMW: don't replace the low-pressure pump, pressure sensor, pump module or filter for 2AAF alone. | BMW SI B13 05 09 | — |
| Real low-pressure fault | N54 | Only when stored with other low-pressure faults such as 2A2D (low pressure system, upper threshold reached) or 29F3 (low pressure sensor, electric). | BMW SI B13 05 09 | — |
| With high-pressure faults | N54 | If 29DC or 2FBF are stored too, diagnose the high-pressure pump first. | SI B12 55 06 (PDF) | N54 high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) replacement Indie $745–$1,586 Dealer $2,086–$2,523 |
A bulletin isn't a recall and doesn't mean your car has the problem; open it for the exact models and build dates. Estimates are national averages built from BMW warranty labor time, regional shop rates and parts prices; open a repair for your ZIP. "Owners paid" is the middle half of sourced prices, shown where we have at least 3.
What to do
- Check whether 2AAF is the only code. If so, BMW's advice is to not replace fuel parts for it.
- If other fuel codes are stored, start with those.
