BMW P0087, 29F2, 29DC and 2FBF: low fuel pressure (N54 high-pressure fuel pump)
Fuel pressure is below what the engine asked for. On the N54 twin-turbo six, the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) is the classic cause, and BMW extended its warranty.

|---|---|---|
| P0087 | Fuel rail/system pressure too low | Generic OBD-II |
| 29DC | Cylinder injection cut-out: pressure too low in high-pressure system | SI B12 55 06 (PDF) |

P-codes are the generic OBD-II codes any reader shows. Six-character and four-character hex codes are BMW's own, read with a BMW-capable scanner; the wording is BMW's, from the source shown.
What it means
Direct-injection engines run a low-pressure in-tank pump and a high-pressure pump on the engine. If rail pressure drops below target, the DME stores P0087 (generic) or the BMW codes above, may cut injection to cylinders and limits power. BMW's N54 bulletin lists long cranking, stumbling and failsafe as symptoms, sometimes with misfire codes for several cylinders.
Can I keep driving?
Gently, to a shop. Low fuel pressure can cause stalling and sudden power loss, so avoid motorway merges and heavy loads until it's fixed.

A bulletin isn't a recall and doesn't mean your car has the problem; open it for the exact models and build dates. Estimates are national averages built from BMW warranty labor time, regional shop rates and parts prices; open a repair for your ZIP. "Owners paid" is the middle half of sourced prices, shown where we have at least 3.
What to do
- Have a BMW-capable scanner read fuel pressure (low and high side) live.
- Ask a BMW center whether an HPFP extension covers your car before paying.
- If misfires are stored too, fix the fuel pressure first.
