Symptoms
- Blue smoke from the exhaust at startup or when accelerating
- High oil consumption (about 1 quart per 600–1,200 miles)
- Oily soot in the tailpipes
- Misfires from oil-fouled spark plugs
Which cars are affected
Reported mostly on the earlier S63 in the 2010–2019 X5 M/X6 M, F10 M5 and F06/F12/F13 M6. The later S63 in the F90 M5, F95/F96 X5 M/X6 M and F91/F92/F93 M8 is a revised engine; we found no public prices for it.
The seals are replaced with the cylinder heads on the car, but the valve covers and camshafts come off, so the job is long. Shops often add new valve covers with the updated crankcase ventilation. The only published prices we found are from European specialists, so no US range is shown.
