Which cars are affected
M3, M4, M2, M5, M8, X5 M and X6 M ordered with the M Carbon ceramic brake option (gold or bronze calipers). Steel-brake cars use the steel brake job instead.
Carbon ceramic rotors last much longer than steel ones on the street, but replacing them costs many times more. Pads are replaced far more often than rotors. Ask whether a quote is for pads only or rotors too, and how the rotors were checked. Some owners convert to steel brakes instead.
