Symptoms
- Steering wheel shimmy under braking or around 50–70 mph
- Clunk over bumps from the front
- Vague steering or the car wanders
- Cracked or oil-soaked rubber visible at the bushing
Which cars are affected
1999–2006 E46. The front lower control arm rear bushings (thrust arm bushings) are the usual wear item; xi models use a different front suspension.
Shops either press in new bushings or replace the control arms with bushings already fitted. An alignment is usually needed afterwards. We haven't found enough verifiable public prices for this job yet, so none are shown.
