Symptoms
- Loss of mid-range power and a flat spot around 3,000–4,500 rpm
- Rattle from the intake manifold at idle
- Lean or intake-related fault codes
- A loose or broken flap inside the valve, which can be pulled into the engine
Which cars are affected
2001–2006 E46 325i/325xi/325Ci/330i/330xi/330Ci (M54). The M52TU 323i/328i also has a DISA valve.
The DISA valve bolts to the intake manifold and is usually a quick job. Rebuild kits for the flap are sold as an alternative to a new valve. The only shop prices we found are in Australian dollars, so no US range is shown.
